Capturing the Game Changers Gala: A Filmmaker’s Reflection on Super Bowl Week in New Orleans

Reflecting on an Unforgettable Super Bowl Week in New Orleans

Super Bowl week in New Orleans wasn’t just about the big game—it was about a mission far greater than sports. As a documentary filmmaker, I had the incredible opportunity to capture The Game Changers Gala, an event dedicated to changing lives through the relentless fight against ALS. Led by Team Gleason and Answer ALS, both organizations founded by Steve Gleason, this event showcased not only the progress in ALS research but also the profound community supporting those affected.

Telling the Story Behind the Mission

Thanks to my dear friend Clare Durrett, I was brought in to document the making of this event—giving a raw and authentic look at the impact Team Gleason and Answer ALS have on the ALS community. From intimate behind-the-scenes moments to the inspiring speeches on stage, my goal was to capture the heart behind the mission.

What makes this event so unique is its dual focus:

  • Team Gleason provides direct support, care, and resources to ALS patients and their families.

  • Answer ALS is leading one of the most comprehensive research efforts to find a cure, openly sharing their data with scientists worldwide.

Through Steve’s vision, these two forces are not only providing hope—they are actively working toward a future where ALS is no longer a life sentence.

Filming an Event with a Greater Purpose

As a filmmaker, I always seek stories that move people—stories that create awareness, spark conversation, and inspire action. This documentary is exactly that.

Throughout the week, I captured:
🎥 The passion and dedication of the Team Gleason staff as they worked tirelessly behind the scenes.
🎥 Powerful moments from the Game Changers Gala, where athletes, researchers, and families came together to fight for a cure.
🎥 The inspiring presence of Steve Gleason, whose resilience and vision continue to drive this mission forward.
🎥 The energy of Super Bowl week in New Orleans, tying the event into a global moment of attention.

This project reminded me why I do what I do—because stories like this need to be told.

Looking Ahead: What’s Next?

While the Super Bowl has ended, the fight against ALS is far from over. This documentary is just the beginning of a larger story—one that I hope will amplify the efforts of Team Gleason and Answer ALS to new audiences.

I’ll be sharing more footage, behind-the-scenes insights, and updates from this journey, so stay tuned!
